Strengths: Tells the tale of the Lord of the Rings saga pretty well
Weakness: Been there, done that gameplay
Lord of the Rings Online Shadows of Angmar is practically World of Warcraft with a fresh coat of paint, but without all the greatness that is WoW. From the interface to the combat, it is all to similar to WoW and it felt very stale from the get go even if the Lord of the Rings story was well represented in it. It is a good game to play if you aren't familiar with World of Warcraft but if you are...
Strengths: LOTR MMO, great graphics
Weakness: none
An fan of LOTR or MMOs in general should like this game. It has the typical leveling up that you see in MMO, but the 'traits' system is interesting addition. What is nice about this game is it does not require a lot of level grinding and it is more interesting than a typical MMO. The graphics are great and there are short missions as well as longer quests, so you don't have to play all day. I...
Strengths: The game has beautiful landscapes, quests that immerse you in Tolkien lore, and good solo ability outside of the main questline.
Weakness: It's nearly impossible to progress the story without a group, and travel wastes time that could be better spent.
The game has a fun crafting system and pretty good tutorial for players that are new to MMORPGs. The classes were fun to play and diverse enough to keep me from feeling like I was playing the same one each time I started a new character. I enjoy soloing and was able to most of the time. Travel time for quests was a bit ridiculous, especially since most of them require you to run out somewhere and...
Strengths: Low monthly fee or no monthly fee if you choose their lifetime plan. Many FREE updates.
Weakness: -
This is a fun game, at least for me anyways. I subscribed to their lifetime membership so that I don't have the monthly fees which make you feel like you must play every day to get your moneys worth. I've never read the Lord Of the Rings book, but have only seen the movie. The game tries to stay as close as possible to the lore of the books. The graphics are VERY good... if you have a higher end...
Strengths: Tolkien lore Casual style but still lots of fun New expansions every 2-3 months, and so far all have been free Very mature community for the most part, especially in comparison to many other MMO's
Weakness: Poor PVP (though not a problem for me, and this is actually a positive if you're a PVE fan)
Before this game, I was playing EQ2 for over a year, and I considered myself more of a "hardcore" MMO player, meaning that anything that made a game easier I tended to dislike. After taking a break from MMO's I ended up buying Lord of the Rings Online on a whim. At first I was very taken aback by the casual nature of the game, but before long I fell in love with it. It actually inspired me to...
Strengths: Great graphics. So much to do. Great grouping dynamics. No feeling of grinding (unless you want to)
Weakness: Starting areas can be a bit empty of people to group with. Periodic tweaks to characters still planned. It's so good, I don't know when I'll play any other games now :)
Before LOTRO, I had never played an MMO before. I got into the closed beta, got hooked and bought the game on pre-order (along with a lifetime subscription). I'm not a hardcore player, so my main character is only at level 37 (out of 50 maximum) with some alternate characters at various levels below that. However, I've played enough of the game to come to the conclusion that I'll be playing this...
Strengths: The Lord of the Rings Universe, Many different classes and races, Fun playing solo or in a group, Storyline is very good, Great graphics
Weakness: Monthly Fee (like most MMORPGs though)
This game resembles World of Warcraft in many respects. From combat to auctions, the game seems like WoW, except in the LOTR world. The story line is based on the books/movies and is very engaging. Group partying/fellowships are very entertaining while traveling through instances. The monthly fee is the same amount as other MMORPG, but at least the developers add free content. I would recommend...

Be prepared to face the growing evil in the east. The forces of Mordor are mobalizing as the continue there search for the ruling ring. Chose your race(dwarf, elf, human, hobbit, and more) and explore the vast world of J.R.R Tolkien. You can customize your character in a number of ways, including his/her appearance and clothing. You can choose to adventure alone, or form you own fellowship and fight...

Rather than a long-winded discourse on personal history with the world of Middle-earth, let is suffice to say that long before there were movies (including the Ralph Bakshi animated film), the books were read, both at a young age and many times through the years. Though there have been bumps and even ruts in the road, Turbine also is fondly remembered for bringing in the one MMO that turned this...

A new WoW?
Strengths: Soloing for most classes is relatively easy. Many quests to do and now a free expansion pack is being added. Monster play. Beautiful graphics-wise.
Weakness: At points, the game seems too easy. Weak economy. Traveling in the game takes forever and the devs like to make people travel.
This game appears to be based off of many aspects of the World of Warcraft - combat, crafting and the auction systems are almost the exact same. However, one notable difference is apparent in the game: the ability to solo without significant buffage, healing potions or food. However, if you want advanced soloing capability, you can certainly purchase these items as they are available. On...
