Strengths: Quick to set up, works out of the box. Easy analog capture.
Weakness: Depends on Windows mixer recording source to be set, even after selecting source within Studio 9.
I've had great results with analog capture so far. Capturing to AVI, then editing and burning to DVD works great. Haven't tried DV capture since I don't have a camcorder...yet! Software hasn't crashed on me - I do have the latest update to version 9.3 from www.pinnaclesys.com.
Strengths: All the cds installs fine. The pci card installs fine is easily picked up by the windows machine.
Weakness: This version crashes way too often in the edit mode. The rendering takes way too long like 4 hours. I have a Pentium 3.2 with 512MB memory.
I would say the hardware is fine. The software of the video editing is terrible and crashes or freezes the machine way too often. The PCI Card can be sold separately. I would look elsewhere for another software.

Strengths: Its so easy a 9 year old can use it.
Weakness: It needs an instructional video to show you how to do the titles and adding different media.
This is the way to go if you're new to video editing. Quick and easy setup, plug and play. I get some crashes only when I go to delete the old video. Other than that, everything works just like Pinnacle says it should. Be aware that the usb moviebox is not the way to transfer video. The pci card is the best way to transfer video. I also had issues after loading & tried to use Pinnacles web based issue submission form. Good luck! These jokers never responded at all. The live chat was kind of OK, but I basically had to fix the issue on my own. It turned out that the video capture card needed to be reseated in the PCI bus.

The box says "Capture and edit DVD quality MPEG video from your DV or Digital 8 camcorder." It may be DVD quality MPEG, but it isn't DVD compatible. You still have to render before you can burn to DVD. For a 2 hour DVD the rendering took almost 4 hours with my Athlon XP 3000+, 512m ram, 160gig HD and Windows XP.
